Introduction
LEGO® Education is pleased to bring you the Playground set, a great addition
to your classroom that will provide many opportunities for playful learning.
The Playground set is ideal for both Free Play and Small Group Play.
The following pages off er ideas and activities to support both playful
learning scenarios. The Free Play page provides tips and tricks for
supporting play, and the “Areas of Learning” section gives advice on how
to use the set as part of an early learning curriculum.
The two theme-based Small Group Play pages contain a building activity,
a list of additional ideas and an “Areas of Learning” section. The information
will help you to incorporate the activities and ideas into your curriculum.

for the German version see pages 9 to 11. We are sure that Playground will
provide you and your early-learners with a memorable and exciting
“playful learning” experience!

Einführung
LEGO® Education freut sich, Ihnen das Spielplatz-Set vorstellen zu dürfen.
Dieses Set bietet Ihnen viele Möglichkeiten zur Gestaltung spielerischer
Lernaktivitäten.
Das Spielplatz-Set eignet sich sowohl im Freispiel als auch für
„Kleingruppenaktivitäten“. Auf den folgenden Seiten fi nden Sie Anregungen
und Vorschläge für beide Formen des spielerischen Lernens. Die Seite
„Freispiel“ enthält Tipps und Tricks für die Gestaltung der spielerischen
Aktivitäten. Im Abschnitt „Bildungsbereiche“ erhalten Sie Empfehlungen für
die Nutzung des Sets im Rahmen der Orientierungs- und Bildungspläne.
Auf den beiden Seiten zu den themenbasierten „Kleingruppenaktivitäten“
fi nden Sie eine Bauaktivität, eine Liste mit zusätzlichen Anregungen sowie
den Abschnitt „Bildungsbereiche“. Die dort enthaltenen Angaben werden
es Ihnen erleichtern, die Aktivitäten und Anregungen in Ihre pädagogische
Arbeit einzubinden.
Die deutschen Hinweise fi nden Sie auf den Seiten 9 bis 11 (die britische
Version entnehmen Sie den Seiten 3 bis 5 und die US-amerikanische
Fassung den Seiten 6 bis 8). Wir sind uns sicher, dass unser Spielplatz-Set

The Tips & Tricks and Areas of Learning sections featured on this page will
help you to get the most out of the Playground set during Free Play.
Tips & Tricks
Using the cards included with the set …
• Show the children the illustrations on cards 1 and 2 to provide inspiration
as they build and create.
• Help the children to build a playground using the set. Encourage
role-play and the exploration of social roles and emotions.
Additional ideas …
• Place pictures of real-life playgrounds near the set. This will help the
children to make real-life connections and stimulate their creativity.
• Take pictures of the children’s creations and place them near the set.
Children will take pride in their work and gain inspiration from one another.
• Encourage children to express their thoughts by asking open-ended
questions.
EYFS Areas of Learning
Communication and language – speaking
• Encourage children to use language related to shape, colour, position
and space as they build.
• Note how children create stories and scenarios during Free Play.
Mathematics – numbers, shape and space
• Prompt children to recognise shapes and explore space as they build.
• Encourage children to count and sort as they play.
Expressive art and design – being imaginative
• Encourage the children to create unique structures.
• Note and support imaginative storylines and role-playing.
