User safety instructions (WARNING)
• Please read all the safety instructions before using the CHAMELEON welding helmet.
• CHAMELEON helmet and cartridge are not suitable for laser, laser cutting or gas welding.
•
CHAMELEON helmets are designed to protect the eyes and face against sparks, spatter and harmful
radiation. However the helmet will not provide protection against explosive devices or corrosive liquids.
• Never use the helmet if the cover plate has not been fi tted correctly. Before each use, check that
no light is able to penetrate the helmet. Also check that the cover plate is clean and that there is
no dirt on the sensors on the front of the lens.
• Any parts which are scratched, cracked or pitted should be replaced immediately before the helmet
is used again in order to prevent serious injury.
• Do not use any replacement parts other than those specifi ed in this manual. Before each use,
please check the enclosed last to make sure that the welding helmet has been supplied with all
the relevant parts.
• According your application, make sure that the shade setting is relevant with you welding
application. See the Shade Chart for welding to select the appropriate level of protection.
• CHAMELEON 3 fi lters are suitable for MIG, MAG, TIG, SMAW, all types of arc welding, plasma
welding and cutting and air carbon gouging.
• Arc rays may burn eyes and skin; use adequate protective equipment.
Welding with WELDING LEGEND (CHAMELEON 3V0) helmet
WELDING LEGEND (CHAMELEON 3V0) helmet automatically changes from light (shade level 3) to dark
(shade level 8-13) during welding.
When welding is stopped, the fi lter automatically turns clear again.
During welding, you can make fi ne adjustments using the potentiometer knob.
Please refer to the shade chart to match the dark shade number to the application.
WELDING LEGEND (CHAMELEON 3V0) fi lters also protect the user’s eyes against harmful infrared (IR)
and Ultraviolet (UV) radiation at all times during welding and when clear.
There are two sensors on the front of the cartridge which detect the light from the welding arc and
cause the lens to darken.
WELDING LEGEND (CHAMELEON 3V0) has solar cells which extends the two batteries lifetime.

Adjusting Sensitivity
It may be necessary to adjust helmet sensitivity to accommodate different lighting conditions or if lens
is fl ashing On and Off. Adjust helmet sensitivity as follows:
Adjust helmet sensitivity in lighting conditions helmet will be used in.
1. Turn sensitivity control to lowest setting.
2. Press On/Off Button to turn helmet On. Helmet lens will darken twice and then clear.
3. Face the helmet in the direction of use, exposing it to the surrounding light conditions.
4. Gradually turn sensitivity setting clockwise until the lens darkens, then turn sensitivity control
counterclockwise until slightly past setting where lens clears. Helmet is ready for use. Slight
readjustment may be necessary for certain applications or if lens is fl ashing on and off.

Lens Delay Control
The lens delay control is used to slow the lens-switching time to the clear state after welding. The delay is
particulary useful in eliminating bright after-rays present in higher amperage applications where the molten
puddle remains bright momentarily after welding. Adjusts from (.10 second-Min. to 1.0 second-Max).
Low Battery Indicator
The low battery indicator lights when 2-3 days of battery life remain.
For 3 V0 model use 2 AAA-1.5 V batteries.

Adjusting WELDING LEGEND (CHAMELEON 3V0)
helmet for a comfortable fi t
1. Headgear Top - Adjusts headgear for proper depth on the head to ensure correct balance and
stability.
2. Headgear tightness - To adjust, push in the adjusting knob located on the back of the headgear
and turn left or right to desired tightness. Note: if adjustment is limited, it may be necessary to
remove the comfort cushion.
3. Distance adjustment - Adjusts the distance between the face and the lens. To adjust, loosen both
outside tension knobs and press inward to free from adjustment slots. Move forward or back to
desired position and retighten. (Both sides must be equally positioned for proper vision.)
4. Angle adjustment - Four pins on the right side of the headband top provide adjustment for the
forward tilt of the helmet. To adjust, loosen the right outside tension adjustment knob then lift
on the control arm tab and move it to the desired position. Retighten tension adjustment knob.
Replacement of the Front and Inside Lens Covers
Warning! Never use the auto-darkening lens without the inside and outside lens covers properly
installed. Welding spatter will damage the auto-darkening lens and void the warranty.
1. Outside/Inside - to remove either lens cover, fi rst remove the auto-darkening lens assembly. To
remove the lens assembly, push down on the bottom retaining arms and push the retaining clips
toward the outside of the helmet. Then, just lift up on the assembly and pull free of the helmet.
Next, remove the outside lens cover by pushing into the helmet. Remove the rubber lens gasket
and install on the new lens cover. (When reinstalling the lens cover, make certain that smooth
surface on the lens gasket faces forward in the helmet.) Reinstall the lens assembly by reversing
the above procedure.
2. Inside - To replace the inside lens cover, remove the auto-darkening lens assembly from the lens
frame by pushing up on the top two retaining tabs while gently pushing the lens free. Remove the
lens cover by sliding it ou of either side. Replace with the new cover lens and reinstall the assembly
in the helmet by reversing the above procedure.
Cleaning
The helmet requires little maintenance. However, for best performance we recommend cleaning
after use. Using a soft cloth dampened with a mild soap and water solution, wipe the cover lenses
clean. Allow to air dry. Occasionally, the fi lter lens and sensors should be cleaned by gently wiping
with a soft, dry cloth. (Never use solvents or abrasive cleaning detergents. Do not immerse the lens
assembly in water).
Troubleshooting
Symptom Solution
Not On - auto-lens will not darken Check batteries and verify they are in good condition
momentarily when turned on. and installed properly. Also, check battery surfaces and
contacts and clean if necessary. Check battery for
proper contact and gently adjust contact points if
necessary. This is particularly important if the helmet
has been dropped.
Not switching - auto-lens stays light Stop welding immediately: Make sure the auto-lens
and will not darken when welding. power is turned ON. If power is on, review the sensitivity
recommendations and adjust sensitivity. Clean lens
cover and sensors of any obstructions. Make sure the
sensors are facing the arc; angles of 45° or more may
not allow the arc light to reach the sensors.
Not Switching - auto-lens stays dark Fine-tune the sensitivity setting by making small
after the weld arc is extinguished, adjustments to the control by turning it toward the “min”
or the auto-lens stays dark when setting. In extreme light conditions, it may be necessary
no arc is present. to reduce the surrounding light levels.
Sections of the auto-lens are not going Stop welding immediately: The auto-lens may be
dark, distinct lines separate the light cracked which can be caused by the impact of dropping
and dark areas. the helmet. Weld spatter on the auto lens may also
cause cracking. (The lens needs to be replaced; most
cracked lenses are not covered by warranty).
Switching or Flickering - the auto-lens Review the sensitivity setting recommendations and
darkens then lightens while the welding increase the sensitivity if possible. Be sure the arc
arc is present. sensors are not being blocked from direct access to the
arc light. Check the lens cover for dirt and spatter that
may be blocking the arc sensors.
Inconsistent or lighter auto-lens shading Refferred to as an angle of view effect, auto darkening
In the dark-state, noticiable on the outside lenses have an optimum viewing angle. The optimum
edges and corners. viewing angle is perpendicular or 90° to the surface of
the auto-lens. When that angle of view varies in the
dark-state, welders may notice slightly lighter areas at
the outside edges and the corners of the lens. This is
normal and does not represent any health or safety
hazard. This effect may also be more noticeable in
applications where magnifying lenses are used.

• Le fi ltre et le masque CHAMELEON ne conviennent pas pour les rayons laser, la découpe laser
ou le soudage autogène.
• Les masques CHAMELEON sont conçus pour protéger vos yeux et votre visage des étincelles,
des projections et des rayons IR et UV nocifs. Ce masque ne vous protègera cependant pas
contre les dispositifs explosifs ou les liquides corrosifs.
•
N’utilisez jamais le masque si l’écran de protection extérieur transparent n’est pas correctement
installé. Avant chaque utilisation, vérifi ez que la lumière est dans l’impossibilité de pénétrer dans
le masque. Vérifi ez également que l’écran extérieur transparent est propre et qu’il n’y a pas de
poussière sur les capteurs devant le fi ltre.
• Toute pièce présentant des fi ssures, des érafl ures ou des piqûres doit être immédiatement
remplacée avant de réutiliser le masque afi n d’éviter toute blessure grave.
• Utilisez exclusivement les pièces de rechange spécifi ées dans ce manuel. Avant chaque utilisation,
assurez-vous que le masque de soudage est équipé de toutes les pièces indiquées dans ce manuel.
En fonction de votre application, assurez vous que le réglage de la teinte du masque corresponde
bien à votre travail. Veuillez vous reporter au diagramme des teintes pour choisir le numéro de
teinte adaptée à l’application.
Les fi ltres CHAMELEON 3 conviennent pour les soudages MIG, MAG, TIG, SMAW (soudage à l’arc
avec électrode enrobée), tous les types de soudage à l’arc, découpe et soudage à l’arc au plasma
et gougeage à l’arc avec électrode en carbone et jet d’air.
Les arcs électriques peuvent brûler les yeux et la peau; utiliser des équipements de protection adéquats.

Les fi ltres
WELDING LEGEND (CHAMELEON 3V0)
protègent également les yeux de l’utilisateur contre les
rayons infrarouges (IR) et ultraviolets (UV) à tout moment pendant le soudage et lorsqu’ils sont à l’état clair.
Deux capteurs à l’avant du fi ltre détectent la lumière de l’arc de soudage et provoquent
l’obscurcissement du fi ltre. Le fi ltre WELDING LEGEND (CHAMELEON 3V0) est équipé de cellules
solaires qui prolongent la durée de vie des piles.

Réglage de la sensibilité
Le réglage de la sensibilté sert à augmenter la sensibilité de la cellule en fonction des variations de
la lumière rencontrées durant les procédés de soudage différents. Nous recommandons un réglage
mi-gamme ou 30 à 50% de sensibilité pour la plupart des applications. Consulter les rubriques
ci-dessous sur le réglage de la sensibilté et les valeurs de réglage pertinentes.
Il peut être nécessaire de régler la sensibilité du masque de soudage selon les conditions de lumière
ou, si la cellule clignote. Régler la sensibilité du masque de soudage comme suit :
Régler la sensibilité selon les conditions de lumière où le masque de soudage sera utilisé.
1. Régler le contrôle de sensibilité au degré le plus bas.
2. Appuyer sur le bouton marche (ON) WELDING LEGEND (CHAMELEON 3V0) pour mettre le masque
de soudage sous tension. La cellule passe au sombre deux fois, ensuite revient au clair.
3. Placer le masque de soudage face à la direction d’utilisation, l’exposant ainsi aux conditions de
lumière ambiante.
4. Tourner graduellement le bouton de réglage de la sensibilité à droite jusqu’à ce que la cellule passe
au sombre ensuite, tourner ce bouton à gauche passé à peine le point où la celllule passe au clair.
On peut alors utiliser le masque pour souder. Il peut être nécessaire de faire des réglages d’appoint
au cours de certaines applications ou, si la cellule clignote.

Retour à l’état clair (delay)
Le réglage du retour à l’état clair du fi ltre sert à ralentir ou augmenter le temps de passage au clair au
terme du soudage. La temporisation est surtout utile pour éliminer l’ultra-brillance des rayons présents
dans les applications haute intensité où le bain de fusion demeure brillant quelques moments à la fi n du
soudage. Se règle entre 0,1 ou 1 seconde pour le
